The Super green pass came into effect on 6 December 2021. But how does it work with car rental? What are the rules to follow for a safe car rental?

The question that customers ask us most often is: do I need a green pass to rent a car? Let's find out together.

Green Pass for public transport

From 6 December until 15 January 2022 it will be mandatory to show the Green Pass on all local public transport. This safety measure is required for all passengers aged 12 and over.

As for the use of private vehicles, the car rental service or rental with NCC driver, the situation is quite different. In this case, the regulations in force provide for the intensification of health procedures such as sanitation and cleaning.

It is therefore possible to carry out the following activities even without having a green pass:

• Take advantage of non-scheduled means of transport such as taxis and NCC services;
• Use a private vehicle: it is allowed to travel in your own car in your own municipality or to other municipalities in the white zone (excluding any regional restrictions);
• Use school transport: vehicles dedicated to children under the age of 12 such as school buses are usable even without the possession of green certification by the little ones.
• Renting a car: car rental is also allowed without a green pass as long as all other safety standards are applied.

Safety in car rental

For all rentals, some specific indications are given for carrying out the activity in complete safety. Managers must always ensure the cleanliness of any rented vehicle before each delivery. The cars and vehicles are sanitized every time the rental car passes to a new customer. Usually the sanitization and disinfection process takes place already at the time of delivery by the customer.

In all cases of car sharing and therefore vehicle sharing, renters must wear gloves and a mask when using the car. As for the car rental of a single or a single family unit, the use of PPE is not required during the rental period of the vehicle.

Sanitation of cars

Sanitizing the cars after each use is essential in order to offer a safe rental experience. Each car undergoes a careful disinfection process by our staff.

The cleaning of the car takes place both in the external environment and in the internal one, paying more attention to the surfaces touched more frequently but also to the car air conditioning system.

Rental companies must ensure the cleaning of vehicles through internal sanitization of the car and any rented vehicle before each new delivery through the use of suitable disinfectant products to eliminate viruses and bacteria.

The rules to apply for a safe car rental during the Covid 19 pandemic are present above all at the rental desk and therefore in the internal areas.
